Adding a few pumpkins to your fall display is the perfect finishing touch. While carving jack-o’lanterns is always a go-to craft this time of year, there are many other ways to decorate with fall’s favorite fruit! Here are three fun, creative, and easy pumpkin decorating ideas. The choice is yours whether you want to use real or craft pumpkins!
Pumpkin Vase
This craft involves two of our favorite things—pumpkins and flowers! To make it spooky for Halloween, add a small skeleton or ghost decorations to the bouquet—or should we say booquet!
Supplies:
- Pumpkin
- Serrated knife
- Glass jar or plastic container (for fresh flowers)
- Fresh cut or silk flower bouquet
Instructions:
Carve a hole in the pumpkin around the stem. Make sure the hole is big enough for the bouquet. Remove the top. If you’re using a real pumpkin, scoop out the seeds. If you’re using fresh flowers, place the container in the pumpkin, and add water. Place the bouquet in the pumpkin, and arrange as needed. You may need to cut the stems of the flowers, depending on the size of the pumpkin you use.

Pour Paint Pumpkin
This is an incredibly easy way to decorate a pumpkin! It’s fun for kids since they get to see how colors blend together. It can get messy, so make sure to cover your crafting space with newspaper! For an extra ghoulish look, opt for Halloween paint colors like green, black, and silver.
Supplies:
- Pumpkin
- Sealant (optional)
- Acrylic paints
Instructions:
Applying a sealant to the pumpkin can help paint stay on better, but this is an optional step. If you do seal the pumpkin, let it dry 24 hours before adding paint, and be sure to clean the brush well if you plan to use it again. When you’re ready to start painting, pour the paint near the stem of the pumpkin. As it runs down the sides, tilt or rotate the pumpkin to help keep the paint dripping. For a marbled look, repeat this with another color right away. If you want to keep the colors from mixing, then let the paint dry before adding the next color. Keep adding colors until you’re happy with how it looks, then let the paint dry for at least an entire day before displaying it.

Dried Flower Pumpkin
This beautifully textured craft will look fabulous as a centerpiece or as part of a fall display indoors or on your front porch! To up the freaky factor for Halloween, choose a pumpkin with bumps all over it, like the Red Warty Thing variety, and let some of that texture peak through the flowers.
Supplies:
- Pumpkin
- Hot glue gun
- Assorted dried or fake flowers
- Scissors
Instructions:
Cut the flower heads from the stems. Decide on how you want to place your flowers—you can cover the entire pumpkin, place flowers evenly spaced out in a pattern, or create a band of flowers that wraps around the pumpkin. Hot glue the flowers onto the pumpkin following the design of your choice.
