Coleus

This eye-catching foliage plant is a technicolor tie-dye sensation! There are so many spectacular shades and multicolored varieties to choose from; some are bright pink with lime green borders like little mini watermelon slices, some are burgundy, electric lemonade, purple, gold, or a mix of rainbow tones! Coleus are especially popular for mixed arrangements, matching the vibrancy and vigor of our favorite annual flowers.

Heuchera

The ruffled leaves of this perennial foliage plant are nothing short of incredible. Heuchera, also known as Coral Bells, are available in every color imaginable: red, lime green, gold, purple, and even raven black! They produce delicate flowers atop tall stems in summer, but it’s the vibrant leaves that steal the spotlight.

Creeping Jenny

A fabulous trailing vine for edging containers and baskets, this lemon-lime beauty is the Rapunzel of foliage plants. Those vines cascade downward so beautifully, creating a waterfall of sunny golden green, contrasting beautifully with the deeper green tones of your other garden plants.

Canna Lilies

With the double impact of sensational foliage and beautiful, bright blooms, there are endless reasons to love Cannas! They’re perfect for placing in the center of large container arrangements because their flowers are so tall and showy. Hummingbirds can’t resist them! Their leaves have subtle stripes and flushes of different colors—some feature more purples, reds, and oranges, while others have more yellows and lime greens.

Before or after your flowers bloom, these foliage plants will keep looking magnificent, so your garden is never lacking in color.

Dusty Miller

Bring some icy, neutral tones to the landscape with this striking gray foliage plant. Its leaves have such a fascinating shape and fuzzy texture—they almost look like sections of a snowflake! If you love minimalist color palettes and cool, crisp scenery, you absolutely have to plant Dusty Miller this year.

Fountain Grass

We love ornamental grasses for the sense of movement they bring to the landscape. We love how they dance in the breeze! Fountain Grass—particularly the purple variety—is an absolute stunner. It produces feathery tufts instead of flowers for a little extra visual impact in the summertime. Fountain Grass looks beautiful in garden beds, but they also make terrific “thriller” plants for the center of mixed container arrangements.

Tricolor Amaranth

Each leaf of this vivacious variety of amaranth has streaks of red, yellow, and green like a stoplight! They’re super easy to grow from seed, so you can directly sow them in spring for a mega colorful summer display. Fun fact: if you harvest the leaves before it goes to seed, you can cook the leaves like spinach and eat them! If you let the plant go to seed, the leaves will become bitter.

Sweet Potato Vine

This leafy trailing plant has bigger leaves than Creeping Jenny but a similar growth habit that makes it perfect for borders and edging. We particularly love planting Sweet Potato Vine along retaining walls so the vines can cascade down the brick or stone facade. There are two main color varieties available: lime green and deep purple. Choose one, or plant a combination of both!
