The Absolute Best Plants For Your Office

plant perfect office with plants

Whether you are preparing to head back to the office soon or have decided to make your home office a permanent part of your life, there is one thing that will definitely make it a way cozier place to spend your days—plants! Houseplants help reduce stress, increase productivity, clean the air, and can even help boost creativity, which all sound like ideal benefits to reap when working in an office!

With that said, it can be a bit challenging to find the plants that are as happy to live in your office as you are to have them there. Office spaces can be bright and airy, but some do not necessarily have the best light conditions or other requirements that, say, some tropical plants prefer, like higher humidity levels. Worry not, though; we’ve put together a list of the absolute best plants for your office (even if it has no windows!)

Spider Plants

Spider plants are not only a perfect starter houseplant in general, but they are ideal for an office space (home or otherwise). They are superb at cleaning and pulling toxins out of the air, and they are nearly next to impossible to kill. They are definitely up there on the list of one of the best plants to buy if you happen to work in an office with no windows because they won’t really care. Keep their soil relatively moist by watering once a week, and enjoy your spider plant in all its glory.

Peace Lily

Yet another wonderful plant well known for its air-purifying qualities. They will literally remove more toxins than any other houseplant around and are another one of the best plants to brighten up a space with low light as they thrive in shady conditions. Peace lilies do not like dry soil, though, so ensure you keep it well-watered or even set it on a pebble tray filled with water to offer some additional humidity.

Sansevieria

Sansevieria, also more commonly referred to as snake plants, are ideal for both newbie houseplant caretakers and those looking to spruce up their office with some greenery that has an amazing architectural quality. They require next to no special attention, are slow-growing, and will happily survive in low to moderate light conditions. Keep in mind, though, that if you are on the hunt for an office plant and have furry critters at home, this is not your best choice as they are toxic to both dogs and cats.

Philodendron

Philodendrons have been a favorite among houseplant lovers for decades. They easily adapt to low-light conditions often found in your average office environment. Their gorgeous, trailing tendrils can reach up to eight feet long and left to cascade over office shelves, or they can be trained to climb a small trellis. They should be watered once the soil is dry to the touch, and kept in either low or indirect sunlight as direct sunlight may scorch their cute little heart-shaped leaves.

Pothos

These lush, trailing beauties make for a great addition to office shelves, and look fab in hanging baskets. They’re super easy to care for because they will tell you as soon as they are thirsty by looking rather dull and droopy, so be sure to keep their soil evenly moist by watering on about a weekly basis. Pothos will tolerate low light conditions but their growth rate will slow. Jade pothos is ideal for extremely low light conditions as the variegated varieties like golden pothos may revert to solid green if they don’t have enough access to natural light.
